Weird Tales of the Future 5, 1953

Weird Tales of the Future no.5, Jan-Feb 1953 from Stanley Morse (the indicia says Aragon Magazines). Cover by the incredible Basil Wolverton. The first story is also by Wolverton: “The Man in the Moon”. “The Worm Turns” by Eugene Hughes. “Else You’ll Be Dead!” by Tony Mortellaro has excellent art and a decent story. Jumpin’ Jupiter has a last installment in this issue.”Under Her Thumb” and “Torture” is a taut psychological drama about a man in a dungeon in fourteenth century London and the terror he goes through while waiting to be tortured. He decides to make a break for it when he notices that the guard left the door ajar. His luck seems to be looking up as he slowly makes his way through the bowels of the castle. The story pacing feels like something from Kurtzman. You can feel the prisoner’s heart pounding as he reaches for the door and freedom.
