Hulk no.9, Jan 2009, Marvel. Cover by Arthur Adams after John Buscema’s Avengers 83.
For all the ladies in my life, She-Hulk and the Lady Liberators take on the Red Guy. This issue is packed with action and guest-stars as Hulk is in Vegas with a pack of Wendigo (they come in packs?) with Sentry, Ms. Marvel (Danvers), and Moon Knight all by Arthur Adams while in the other half, Frank Cho illustrates “Revenge of the Lady Liberators” where Red Hulk takes on She-Hulk, Tigra, Thundra, Valkyrie, Hellcat, Spider-Woman, Storm, Invisible Woman, and Black Widow. There hasn’t been this much ass-kicking by some lovely ladies since Tarantino’s Deathproof. Sure, Red Hulk is a bit overpowered but that just lets the ladies really kick loose.
I love the old timey cover. The original is also one of my favorites. The art is great in both stories. I also love the one-pagers in this series that presaged Mini-Marvels. Hulks in “Hulk Ice” by Audrey Loeb and Chris Giarrusso guest-starring Ice Man with Hulks Red, Green, and Blue.
