“Demon of the Deep” from Venus no.19, 1952

“Demon of the Deep” splash from the last issue of the classic Venus series, no.19

A demon crawls out of the sea to interrupt Venus on her romantic cruise with Whitney Hammond. This creature insists he must dispose of all witnesses because he committed murder before fleeing police gunfire and jumping overboard. Now he’s back to claim the prize for his brutal slayings with only Venus and Whit between him and his goal.

This is a great story that has surprisingly murky inks from Everett. Possibly he was experimenting with a new type of brush? He was also underserved by muted palette where even Venus’ signature red dress fails to stand out.

  1. I’m glad you liked it. The 50s had so many great ideas stuffed into short 5-7 page stories. I’m hoping that we’re able to preserve them for future readers to discover.
