Great Comics from 65 years ago

I intended for this to post in March, but I traveled a lot for my day job, going to Memphis for a week and New York twice. Since then, I’ve fallen behind in posting here. Today, I’m making up some ground.

Anyhow, March wasn’t that long ago. Dialing back the clock 65 years ago, the newsstand was packed with such variety! (Yes, comics used to be bought at newsstands or five-and-dime stores.)

More than 200 comics were published with March 1952 cover dates. At least half were bi-monthly, meaning that another 100 titles were on the rack with February cover dates. A few more still followed quarterly publishing (usually indicated by the season, such as Spring 1952.)

Atlas Comics (Marvel) – 32

Atlas put three new titles on the rack this month, including two horror titles: Spellbound, Mystery Tales, and War Combat. Atlas saturated the market, usually with decent stories and top quality artistic talent.
